It was in 1997, after years of discussion, that we decided to establish a vineyard.  We had recently purchased a block of land adjacent to our existing property which seemed to be ideal - a small valley facing northwards, sloping so as to drain frost in spring and sheltered from the prevailing north-westerly winds.  Our first step was to engage a consultant viticulturalist, Mark Brewer, and Brent Hanlon, with a Certificate in Viticulture, joined us to help manage the vines.

Planting commenced in 1998 and over the next two years, we established the current vineyard of about 5 acres / 2 hectares with 7004 vines.  About half is Pinot Noir and the other half is Chardonnay and Riesling.

Right from the start we have had only one objective - other than to make sure we do not go broke - and that is to produce the very best wine we can.  So there have never been any limitations on the amount of time and effort which is put into grooming the vines to produce the very best grapes we can.

Wine can be produced in many different styles with varying levels of surar, acid, tannin etc.  We produce wines which suit our own palates and, since Jan and I have 'average' palates, these wine styles also prove popular with many of our friends and visitors.  And, over the years, we have collected quite a number of wine show awards.
